A sneaky driver’s attempt to avoid getting a parking ticket in Harlesden by covering his registration plates with tape has failed

Less than 24 hours after he carried out his cheeky act on Harlesden Gardens, a traffic warden issued a fine to the owner of the Smart car.

Yesterday a bemused resident, who saw the driver concealing his plates, uploaded the images showing his deed on to social networking site Facebook.

The pictures sparked an online debate where users speculated on why he decided to conceal his plates.

Several said they thought he hoped to avoid being issued with a parking ticket and one he may be attempting to hide adulterous behaviour from a partner.

A spokesman for Brent Council told the Times: “Deliberate obscuring of a number plate is a criminal offence, so one for the police to handle.

“If one of our wardens came across that car (even if not illegally parked) we’d expect them to report it directly to the police for action.”

It is not clear whether the tape was ultimately removed by a traffic warden in order to issue a parking ticket, or if the owner realised he couldn’t win this one.
