There’s nothing worse than waking up after a fantastic night out with a dry mouth, pounding headache and severely moisture-lacking skin. But swilling a glass of water and taking a few painkillers aren’t the only ways to help a hangover – you can also bring your parched complexion back to life with a few easy tricks and products.

Freshen up

The best, cheapest way of injecting some moisture into your skin is with some water. That’s right, water… from the tap. Couldn’t be easier! Simply run the cold tap until it’s nice and icy cold and then splash onto your face. Make-up removal is often last on the list when we get home from a big night out so doing this should also help remove any dregs of cosmetics. If your skin is really dry then use an exfoliating scrub like Liz Earle’s Gentle Face Exfoliator, before removing it with a face cloth soaked in cold water. This will help boost your complexion and will also help wake you up if it was a late one!

Marvellous masks

A hangover day is all about chilling out in bed, lying very still. So why not use this otherwise wasted time to stick on a face mask and revive your moisture lacking skin. Clarins’ Pure and Radiant Mask is a fantastic option as it’s lovely and refreshing. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, and if you’ve got a gel eye mask in the fridge then pop that on too – it will have the added effect of helping ease a headache! Or if a mask isn’t in your bathroom cabinet and you don’t want to splash out on an expensive one, most supermarkets and pharmacies sell individual options that you can experiment with for a fraction of the price.

Finishing off

Once you’ve washed your face and had a relaxing time with a face mask on, it’s time to finish off the routine with a layer of moisturiser. A gel option is best for tired skin so why not try Clinique’s 3-Step Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel, a cult classic given a modern twist.

Follow these steps and your skin (as well as your head) will feel fresh and fabulous, and ready for the next night out!
