One of Ireland’s most anticipated race festivals, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon is back in 2016 and promises to be bigger and better than before with great miles, music, medals and trips to Las Vegas to be won.
The 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Marathon series will culminate in a fun-filled, festival of running with the 10k race addition along with the prolific half marathon making the series accessible to runners of all abilities.
Both races will start together at 8:30 am in the Dublin’s Docklands area and finish in the Phoenix Park. To entertain runners and keep spirits up along the course, there will be live entertainment from top music acts performing along the route.
There will be a 3K Family Fun Run for everyone beginning in Phoenix Park from 11:45 am and finish line festival with great entertainment, food and music for all attending.
The Family Fun Run has been a huge hit for young feet, old feet and tired feet alike since it began two years ago and has previously attracted up on 2000 runners, many of whom take part with their families having just completed the half marathon event.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series has also launched a search to find Ireland’s first Rock ‘n’ Run Idol 2016.
The nationwide competition is calling on aspiring runners and those who simply want to get their feet moving a little faster to share their stories of perseverance, motivation and what inspired them to lace up their trainers and hit the pavement.
The winner of this competition will be whisked off on a VIP trip to take part in Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas on November 10th-13th, 2016. The competition is open to runners of all abilities and anyone interested can go to RocknRollDublin.com to enter.
Speaking at the launch, Ray Foley, Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin’s Ambassador said: “I’m delighted to be involved in this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin series-this will be my first time competing but many of my friends have ran it over the last few years and they loved it!
“With the Rock ‘n’ Run Idol initiative, there’s an opportunity for so many people to get involved – no matter how experienced or inexperienced a runner you are, we want to hear your story.
“My own, personal journey into running has been tough – I’ll admit it’s not easy trying to get off the couch and into the running gear but having this to train for is a brilliant motivator!
“We want to hear from people who’ve felt the same as me and worse and have overcome or want to overcome their running foes. We want to hero their efforts with Rock ‘n’ Run Idol.”
Rob Griffiths, race director also said “This year’s routes will take in some of Dublin’s iconic landmarks beginning in the Dublin Docklands and taking in O’Connell Street Bridge/GPO, the Ha’Penny Bridge, Christ Church Cathedral, Brazen Head Pub (Ireland’s oldest pub), James Joyce Museum, the Guinness Brewery, Royal Hospital Kilmainham (Irish Museum of Modern Art), Kilmainham Gaol and the Phoenix Park.
“This is a hugely significant route in Ireland’s centenary year, passing many of the significant landmarks and garrisons involved in the 1916 rising.”
