We’ve already covered what mascara, eyeliner, concealer and lip balm are gym suitable, now it’s on to cleansing wipes, dry shampoo, hand sanitiser and SPF.

Facial cleansing wipes

Wearing make-up while working out can cause a build-up of excess oil and block the skin’s natural ability to breathe. If you do choose to wear some, cleansing as soon as possible afterwards is advisable.

Wipes are handy for either pre-workout makeup removal or post-workout freshening up, and can easily be stored in your gym bag.

Garnier Micellar Extra-Gentle Cleansing Wipes are soaked in micellar water, and will easily and gently remove eye make-up. Yes To Cucumber Facial Towelettes are a mild refreshing option. Ole Henriksen Grease Relief exfoliating wipes are specially formulated to deep-cleanse oily and blemish-prone skin.

Dry shampoo

Hair will definitely need a pick me up post-workout. And if you’re heading straight out with no time to wash and condition, a dry shampoo will be your most convenient option. Most brands do mini versions so it won’t take up too much room in your gym bag.

Klorane’s Oatmilk Dry Shampoo Spray or Batiste’s Floral and Fruity Blush dry shampoo will provide an instant refresh for your hair in between washes.

Hand sanitiser

Gym equipment is rife with bugs and viruses that can lead to colds and other infections.

Hand sanitiser should be an essential part of your fit kit, to be used after touching germ-ridden gym equipment.

Dr Bronner’s Organic Lavender Hand Sanitizer is an effective natural sanitising spray with a soothing scent of lavender oil. Cuticura cucumber hand gel is cheap and cheerful, but if you need a more luxurious option try Ginger Hand Cleanser from Origins, a moisturising combination of coconut-derived cleansers to thoroughly remove dirt and impurities

If you workout regularly, sunscreen is an essential part of your kit to protect skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays which can cause skin cancer, aging and sun spots.

Even if you’re in the gym, slathering on some sunscreen is advisable as damaging rays can reflect off metal and glass surfaces onto your face.

Opt for a brand that is waterproof, and won’t clog pores or cause breakouts like bareMinerals SPF30 Natural Sunscreen Medium. Laura Mercier Daily Face Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen is a transparent formula easily absorbed by the skin upon application, while SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance UV Defense SPF50 is a mineral based fluid providing protection that also claims to enhance skintone and radiance.
