George Clooney has revealed he will disappear from the big screen as he gets older

Speaking to the BBC during the UK promotion of his latest movie role in the Coen brother comedy Hail Caesar!, the actor revealed his reluctance to remain in front of the camera as he ages.

The star, who turns 55 this year, said: “I think nobody wants to see anybody really ageing. It’s a very unforgiving thing the cameras and so ageing becomes something that you know you try to do less and less on screen.

Known as “gorgeous George” to his fans, the actor is still able to draw a crowd and in his latest blockbuster role plays ageing, dimwitted 50s movie star who is kidnapped and held ransom by a Communist cell.

“You try to pick the films that work best for you and as you age they become less and less. It’s really fun acting… but you know as you age on screen you get to that point that you really understand that you can’t stay in front of the camera your whole life,” he admitted.

His comments indicate George is now considering winding down his screen time. The actor who has won two Academy Awards received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes Awards last year (15).

Instead, it seems, he will now focus on directing which he described as his ‘great love’. “It’s much more fun to be, and it’s infinitely more creative to be directing – infinitely more,” George enthused.

“It is my great love and I do enjoy it a lot and I’ve had some really great success and I’ve had some not so successful films, and that’s also part of the experience,” he added.

George, who married Human Rights lawyer Amal Clooney in 2014, is currently focusing on directing another Coen Brother’s film “Suburbicon,” starring Matt Damon, it is due for release next year.
