Shelley Marsden looks at a new photography exhibition melding music and food…
MANCHESTER-Irish rocker Noel Gallagher has been snapped alongside his beloved guitar and two of his other favourite things in life – a cuppa and a digestive biscuit.
The photograph of the ex-Oasis guitarist, who claimed a couple of years ago that he couldn’t write about being young, drinking and smoking because he was “all grown up now” and happy “with a cup of tea”, is one of a series of well-known musicians with their favourite food by acclaimed food photographer Patrice de Villiers, who has been described as “the culinary world’s most exciting photographer”.
Also featured are shots of Juliette Lewis, The Kooks, Roger Daltrey, Brandon Flowers of The Killers, Brian May, Siouxsie Sioux and Paul Weller – and their favourite foods.
The exhibition, at London’s Quaglino’s restaurant, was commissioned by LoveMusicLoveFood (www.lovemusiclovefood.org) runs from Thursday 14 November until Saturday February 1, 2014.
Chef Heston Blumenthal has described de Viller’s style as “fearless and imaginative” and she is known for her anarchic ‘rock n roll’ approach to food photography: from smothering rock-stars in Marmite, covering naked torsos with Haggis and pelting celebrities with day-glow cupcakes, all to get the perfect shot.
The photographs are taken from LoveMusicLoveFood, The Rockstar Cookbook – a book raising funds and awareness for Teenage Cancer Trust (www.teenagecancertrust.org). All images within the exhibition and the cook book are available to purchase with all profits going to Teenage Cancer Trust.
