Gaels young guns show level of maturity

Tir Chonaill Gaels 2-10, Dulwich Harps 1-04

By Damian Dolan.

Tir Chonaill Gaels progressed to next weekend’s Junior Championship final, but it was a far closer affair than the final scoreline would suggest.

When Dulwich Harps’ star man Mike Maloney found the back of the Gaels’ net 14 minutes into the second half just two points separated the sides, but the Greenford club’s young guns showed a level of maturity which belied their tender years to see the game out.

Their South London opponents will no rue their inability to do likewise in the first meeting between the sides, while last Sunday their reliance on former TCG man Maloney for scores would cost them dear.

The Harps had first use of a strong wind, but it was Tir Chonaill that came out of the blocks the better – Ryan Kearney and Liam Gavigan pointing. The wind was soon accompanied by torrential rain but it mattered not to the Gaels who doubled their lead through Gavigan and the excellent Daniel Duggan.
