St Gabriels blew the cobwebs of their county final win over Kilburn Gaels away at Greenford on Sunday afternoon ahead of the club’s All Ireland Club quarter-final with Lisbellaw St Patrick’s on December 2, and not before time.

Taking to the muddy pitch a full six weeks after their senior championship triumph, last Sunday’s outing will be Tommy Duane side’s one and only competitive run out between October 7 and the visit of the Ulster and Fermanagh champions.

Hardly ideal preparation and not surprisingly there was more than a hint of rustiness about the county champions. Early doors, there was even a hint of anxiety, as if sensing the need to make these 60 minutes count.
