London will face the qualifiers in their championship campaign this season, as they were turned over by 13 points by 2015 All Ireland semi-finalists Mayo.
Two first half goals in the space of seven minutes were too much for the developing home side to get back from, as the visitors, seeking an unprecedented sixth Connacht championship title in the row, will be concerned at the 17 wides they shot over the 70 minutes.
London started the game bright, holding Mayo off for ten minutes while they took their first point.
But after losing their captain Cillian O’Connor to a black card on six minutes, Mayo piled the pressure on the London backs, and made them struggle to gain any territory from the kick-outs, with their away black and green jerseys saturating the final third.
London eventually cracked under the pressure and lost possession twice to concede two goals from O’Connor’s replacement Conor Loftus and Jason Doherty, and went into the break nine points down.
They improved and were more stable in the second-half and began to use the height and strength of James Moran and Mark Gottsche to collect long kick-outs in the centre of the park, as they kept within four points of the visitors in the second half.
