Clare outplay lacklustre London
By Larry Cooney
London’s recent promising form was given a severe reality check at a sunny but bitterly cold Cusack Park, Ennis last Saturday afternoon. After running table-toppers Limerick to a single point in Ruislip six days previously, the Exiles were well and truly outplayed by Mick O’Dwyer’s impressive Clare team who have now put themselves in with a real chance of promotion ahead of their final round home clash also with Limerick.
It was therefore a hugely disappointing result and display from rock-bottom London who for the first time in this year’s campaign looked out of their depth after some memorable displays previously this spring.
And all looked well in the early stages when the visitors bossed the exchanges defending the scoreboard end as they attacked the town end goal. Late inclusion Lorcan Mulvey opened the scoring after three minutes following a good run by Greg Crowley. From the kick-out London were soon back on the offensive when Mark Gottsche put Lloyd Colfer clear for another London point.
