Tara were denied a place in this year’s All-Ireland club final after finally succumbing to Four Roads at St. Aidan’s Park, Ballyforan Co. Roscommon last Sunday afternoon. But the Connacht champions’ six point victory margin did not reflect how close the London champions were in contention for fifty-seven minutes of an entertaining and competitive encounter. After trailing by 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time while playing against against the breeze, Tara were only three points in arrears when referee Karl O’Brien controversially penalised London goalkeeper Denise Gilligan for ‘breaking’ the line in the small square while taking a puc-out to concede a ’45. From the resultant ’45 taken by Cait Kenny a dropping ball into the square was doubled on to the Tara net by Grainne Egan for a clinching second goal for Four Roads.
