GAA All Ireland Club Intermediate Hurling Championship Final

Grealish relishing Croker chance

St. Gabriel's in action against Killimordaly in the AIB All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Semi-Final

After twice sitting on the bench at Croke Park finals, St Gabriel’s forward John Grealish is finally hoping to realise a personal ambition on Sunday against Kilkenny’s Clara, and at long last get the chance to play in one.

Twice in 2005, Grealish was an unused substitute goalkeeper as first his hometown club Athenry lost to James Stephens of Kilkenny in the All Ireland Club SHC final, and then as Galway beat Limerick in the All Ireland Minor final.

Sunday gives the converted corner forward a welcome chance to rectify that situation. Converted, because Grealish is a goalkeeper at heart, but as a forward he’s already ensured his place in St Gabriel’s GAA folklore by coming off the bench to score the winning goal in last year’s county final at Ruislip to edge out Kilburn Gaels.
