There was to be no fairy-tale ending to St. Gabriel’s glorious run to Croke Park as Clara made it a Kilkenny All-Ireland Club final ‘double’ after they easily saw off the defiant London champions with eight points to spare last Sunday.

And after the welter of excitement in the day’s ‘curtain-raiser’ between Kilkenny’s Thomastown and Manchester’s Fullen Gaels, this was an encounter that proved to be hugely disappointing almost from start to finish where the result never seemed in doubt from the midway point of the opening half.
