Flatley: Why do the Irish love to throw on a tracksuit?

Michael Flatley Newbridge 415

Michael Flatley cannot get his head around why people in Ireland wear tracksuits, preferring instead to dine in style with his wife at home.

Speaking to Hello magazine, the Lord of the Dance star told how he prepares for dinner with his wife Niamh O’Brien in the formal dining room of their mansion in Cork.

He said he didn’t understand why people don’t make an effort at home and why they look forward to throwing on some sweats as soon as they get in the door.

““I will wear a suit and tie or a tuxedo. We really dress up. I don’t understand people who say they can’t wait to get home and throw on sweats,” he told the magazine.

“I married my wife because she is the most important person in the world. If there is ever a time to dress up, it’s for your wife.

“I get out some gin and take my time preparing the perfect martini and listen to some Frank Sinatra and wait for her to come downstairs.”

Flatley, 56, was pictured taking his wife of seven years Niamh out for a fancy meal in Dublin in May to celebrate her 40th birthday.
