First Dates has become a bit of a cult TV show in the UK, with viewers tuning in each week to watch singletons try and find love over a posh meal in central London.
The format has now moved across the Irish Sea, with RTE broadcasting First Dates Ireland for the first time on April 21.
Staged at the restaurant in The Gibson Hotel on Mayor Street, Dublin, the programme’s inaugural show certainly drew a reaction from viewers.
Whether it was noting the striking similarities between Simon and Tynan, who even ordered the same meal, or watching dental nurse Ciara being stood up, people across the country were glued to their TVs.
Amy, from Wexford, was a popular figure on twitter last night with people quick to criticise Daryl for his “mistake”.
And Ireland proved it can go toe-to-toe with its British neighbours when it comes to being forward in the First Dates restaurant.
South African model Frederica certainly wasn’t shy when it came to talking with her date from Donegal, Lee, about her bedroom habits – or asking him about his.
The show has already gained a new wave of Irish fans, and if the rest of the series is anything to go by, expect many more to tune in during the weeks to come.
