Touted as ones to watch this year, Kingdom Kerry Gaels could so easily have been watching this year’s championship semi-finals from the bank. Just one more point at the Scrubs would have given Parnells the draw they needed to hold on to second spot in Group 1, and a place in the semi-finals for a fourth consecutive year.
As it is, Noel Dunning’s side still have the chance to avenge last year’s final defeat to Tir Chonaill Gaels, when things unravelled after the first half sending off of Kevin Waldron.
Like the team that sneaks into the Championship play-offs on the last weekend of the season, only to go on and win the final at Wembley at promotion to the Premier League, the Kingdom go into the semi-finals on the crest of a wave. Runners up in 2007 as well as last year, the club is still searching, however, for a first title since 2004.
