An Irish hypnotherapy and counselling clinic has launched a Facebook addiction service for people who are addicted to social media sites.
The D4 Clinic, named due to its location in the notoriously affluent Dublin 4 postcode, generally specialises in weight loss, smoking and stress reduction.
But they have jumped on a new gap in the market to help those whose mental health is suffering due to the ‘false reality’ that social media sites have bombarded upon the public.
And ironically, they have taken to their Facebook page to advertise the service, although it may well prove the best place to track down their target audience.
The Blackrock and Ballsbridge clinic’s psychologist Jason O’Callaghan spoke at the launch last night saying: “People are being increasing addicted to social media because it is so freely available, even smokers or alcoholics can’t do it all the time but those addicted to social media live on their phones.
“There mental health is being damaged due to the barrage of images and false reality that they are seeing on line, most have more virtual friends then real friends and cyber bulling is becoming more frequent on social media especially amount young people.”
“We are seeing a huge impact on people between the ages of 15 and 40 where they are on line all day in one form or another. This has lead to to the rise of digital detox weekends and programs to unplug us from the 24 hours on line lifestyle. We offer counseling (sic), CBT and clinical hypnotherapy to clients who wish to deal with their addictions.”
