Exiles’ hopes are high

By Damian Dolan.

London’s hurlers open their Leinster championship campaign against Carlow at Ruislip on Sunday with joint manager Tommy Harrell confident that the Exiles can continue to prove their doubters wrong.

Written off in the league, London made sure of their Division 2A status with a game to spare, thanks to victory over Kildare and a draw with Westmeath before giving eventual winners Kerry a run for their money. Now Harrell believes the Exiles can continue to defy the doubters in the championship, starting with bridging the gap to Carlow.

The Exiles lost by ten points when the sides met at Dr Cullen Park in February in the league and the same margin separated them nearly 12 months ago at the same venue.

“In the league we were with them for 55 minutes and it was only the last 15 minutes that we ran out of steam,” said Harrell. “We created many chances against them that day and certainly had chances of victory.
