Exiles draw Westmeath

By Damian Dolan.

London’s hurlers will face Westmeath in Preliminary Round of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship Qualifiers on June 22 at Ruislip.

“We’re delighted to get a home draw,” said London manager Eamonn Phelan. “We’ve had an awful gap from the league final to the Carlow game – two games played in nine weeks. It helps to focus the mind [the draw]. Everyone knows now we’re not getting a bye.”

The draw was composed of teams beaten before the semi-final stages of the provincial championships, so Tipperary, who were beaten by Limerick yesterday in the Munster semi-final, were not in the draw.

The teams who advance from the Preliminary Round games will then play in Phase 1. Carlow got a bye to Phase 1.

Preliminary Round

Offaly v Waterford

Losers of Wexford/Dublin v Antrim

London v Westmeath

Ties played on Saturday 22nd June

Phase 1

London/Westmeath v Offaly/Waterford

Ties played on Saturday 29th June
