Eastenders spin-off set for Waterford

The Eastenders spin-off series set in Ireland, Redwater, will be filmed in Dunmore East, Co Waterford.

Based around veteran characters Kat and Alfie Moon, played by Jess Wallace and Shane Richie, it will chart the search for Kat’s long-lost son.

The show’s producers have been tight-lipped about the details of the six-part drama but have now revealed a more specific location.

Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins told the Irish Sun: “Now is the perfect time to take two of Eastenders’ best-loved characters out of their comfort zone as they head to Ireland to search for answers to some very big questions.

“My team here are very excited about creating a whole new drama that stands apart from Eastenders while taking our style of storytelling to a place of myth, secrets and immeasurable beauty.”

In 1997, Pauline Fowler, played by the late Wendy Richard, travelled to Ireland in search of a long-lost relative.

However, the three-episode experiment was badly received due to the negative, stereotypical portrayal of Irish people.
