Dubliners come to rescue of good Samaritan Irish-American tourist

High Tide041

A 20-year-old Irish-American was robbed of his phone and wallet after he jumped into the River Liffey to help a man in distress.

However, three kind Dubliners made sure his view of the city was not tarnished by coming to his aid and taking him for a night out.

Joe Sheehan, of Nebraska to Mayo grandparents, was met by Hugh, Katie and Cathal who took him to an internet cafe to cancel his cards and organise a money transfer.

The do-gooders then took him for a pint to settle his nerves… which turned into a Harcourt Street session.

“I gave him €50 straight away just to calm him down and then he didn’t have anywhere to stay as he had been headed to a youth hostel and we ended up having a really good night” Hugh told the Irish Independent.
