Tuam’s popular breeder passed away in a car accident on Sunday

The breeder of Ireland’s 2015 Horse of the Year, Faugheen, which went on to win last year’s Cheltenham Championship Hurdle, Dr. John Waldron, was killed in a car crash in Tipperary last Sunday.

Dr. Waldron from Bishop Street in Tuam, Co. Galway, was in his 70s and was popular both in his local community and in horse racing circles.

It is understood he was returning from a point-to-point meeting in Ballingarry when his car collided with another vehicle at Fortmoy Cross, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary at 17:15 hours last Sunday. Dr Waldron was pronounced dead at the scene. His body, and the injured driver of the other car, a woman in her 60s, were taken to Limerick Hospital.
