Borough commander awards Met’s finest

Brent police celebrated bravery and commitment to duty by its officers and support staff with a special commendation ceremony at Wembley Stadium presided over by the local Borough Commander Detective Chief Superintendent Michael (Mickey) Gallagher.

Among those honoured were PC Gary O’Connell who (with PCs Yas Gindall, Matt James, Doug Hamilton and Tim Williams) stopped a suspicious vehicle and recovered firearms and ammunition; Inspector Paul Riley, who (with Sgt Tony Wadham) safely evacuated two people from a smoke-filled building; PC Emma Coyle (with PCs Darren Mercer and Ashley Price) who rushed to try and save the life of a stab victim; PC Tony Joyce (with PCs Andreas Uthaug and Emily Patterson) were injured responding to a domestic in which a large man who had been smashing his partner’s head against a wall set three dogs, including a Pit Bull Terrier, on them; and PCSO Tippawan Kavanagh successfully tracked down a local sex offender who was later jailed for 16 years.
