Danny Boyle, the film director behind last year’s Olympic opening ceremony, will direct a police drama for Channel 4 called Babylon.
Written by the same people that worked on comedy Peep Show, Channel 4 boss Jay Hunt told the Edinburgh television festival that work would begin on a pilot this year.
The drama, which will be written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong who also created Fresh Meat and black comedy Four Lions, will be broadcast next year and could be followed by a full series.
Boyle, who has family roots in Donegal, said no to a knighthood after his work on the £27 million Olympic opening ceremony. He came to fame with Trainspotting which starred Ewan McGregor as a drug addict.
