Bomb scare opposite Watford Irish Centre

Police in Watford have confirmed that they found a mortar explosive projectile in a field opposite the Watford Irish Centre this morning.

They announced that they were called to the Wiggenhall Road area at 8:37am this morning after the item was found.

A specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the scene as Hertforshire officers evacuated a number of nearby houses and industrial premises.

The EOD officers assessed the item and confirmed the mortar was not-viable (empty) and it was removed it from the scene.

People were allowed back to their premises at about 10.45am.
