Birmingham parade looks to businesses

St. Patrick’s Day festival in Birmingham to go ahead with help of the local businesses

Birmingham’s St Patrick’s Festival committee will this year, for the first time in many years, have to raise all the finance for its parade from the local community and businesses.

It follows the announcement last year by Birmingham City Council that due to cutbacks it could no longer fund the traditional parade and festival.

The privately-owned, commercially run, Irish Centre in Digbeth, run by the Owens family, last year raised £10,000 towards the cost of this year’s event by holding a marathon concert.

Last week it handed over the cheque to Ann Tighe, the long-serving Chair of Birmingham’s St Patrick`s Festival Committee.
