Berry lip colours and blushers are always a welcome addition to any make-up bag, but the goodness of berries themselves should also be making it into your skincare.
And don’t just think it’s your regular strawberries and raspberries that will do, oh no. Companies are now harnessing the power of cranberry seed oil and bearberry extract, to give your skin that extra boost it needs. We look at what’s new in the world of berry beauty.
Not heard of bearberry? Us either, until Oskia put it front and centre of its Renaissance Brightlight serum. The new product was created by skincare expert Georgie Cleeve and her team to tackle extensive pigmentation and dark spots. The serum was actually inspired by Georgie’s battle with melasma following the birth of one of her children, and by targeting the different mechanisms of melanin production, this daily gel lightens skin tone giving users a brighter complexion and even tone. The Bearberry leaf provides the serum’s Arbutin ingredient, which is mixed with a host of other skin goodies like pumpkin and papaya enzymes, passion fruit and grape AHAs and hyaluronic acid.
Cranberry seed oil
Skincare specialists Liz Earle’s new Superskin Eye Cream adds cranberry seed oil to a concoction of rosehip and borage oils, in this super charged cream. Eyes feel refreshed, and left with a wide awake look. Cranberries are high in anti-oxidants, which as well as being great for health reasons, is also a godsend when it comes to skin too. The oil is full of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which absorb particularly well into the skin, boosting hydration along the way.
Éminence Organic Skincare’s new Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel decided acai was the way to go, on account of the super berry’s wrinkle busting properties. The non-irritating peel also uses vitamin C-rich grapefruit, fellow super berry, goji, and lactic acid for hydrated skin that looks smoother and feels firmer.
Good Things have also used the antioxidant superfruit as part of its new spa collection. For the Acai Berry range, the fruit, along with raspberry and cranberry, is used in a Daily Essential Bath Soak and a Daily Essential Body Wash. Bursting with antioxidants, these will leave skin feeling cleansed and refreshed.
Like Éminence, Lancôme went with the powerhouse goji berry for its latest launch, the Énergie De Vie skincare collection. The line includes an overnight mask, a pearly primer and a moisturiser, which leaves skin smooth and fresh. Along with goji berries, lemon balm and gentian root extract have been used, all of which are known for their energising and protective properties.
