Natasha Khan a.k.a. Bat For Lashes has directed young Carlow actress Saoirse Ronan for the video for her duet with Jon Hopkins.

The track Garden’s Heart will be released via Parlophone as a standalone digital single on October 7, and will be part of the soundtrack for Kevin Macdonald’s new film How I Live Now, based on the young adult novel by Meg Rosoff, which Ronan stars in.

The video for the single is a nod to the theme of the film, the outbreak of a world war in 21st century Britain.

Dressed in an army uniform and dirtied with mud, Ronan can be seen climbing the stairs of a mystical, derelict house, cleaning herself and tending to her wounds in a bath full of water lilies. The camera goes between Ronan in the bathroom and wandering around in the marshy fieldlands around the house.

George MacKay, Tom Holland, Harley Bird and Anna Chancellor also star in the movie, which is released on October 4.

The film’s soundtrack, by Hopkins, also features songs by Daughter, Nick Drake, Fairport Convention and Amanda Palmer, and will be released in November via Just Music.

“Having been fans of each other’s work for some time, Khan and Hopkins have been looking for the right project to collaborate on,” said Parlophone.

Saoirse Ronan plays Daisy in the upcoming movie, an American living with relatives in the U.K. Just as she finally acclimates herself to these new surroundings, and falls for a young neighbour (George MacKay), war breaks out in the peaceful countryside, threatening to end this budding relationship before it starts.
