While we always look forward to summer, more exposure to sweat, pool chemicals, sun, and humidity can result in warm weather breakouts.
The heat and humidity intensify oil production, which clogs pores with dirt and debris ready to spoil your summer ready look. But don’t let a little skin emergency rain on your parade. A few adjustments to your beauty routine during the summer months can stop pimples in their tracks. Try our top tips for keeping your face free of summer breakouts.
Use a toner
A toner is essential for summer as you can build up lots of dead skin cells that were dried by the sun which clog pores. Tone in the morning and at night to remove the dead cells, allowing your new skin to reproduce faster. Try a toner that’s packed with antioxidants like Aesop’s Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Toner which soothes, detoxifies, and evens the appearance of skin without stripping moisture.
Use a light SPF moisturiser
Swap your rich moisturiser for a lighter hydrating lotion with SPF in it, like Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50, as a thicker one will clog pores. And if you’re going to be in the sun, reapply every couple of hours to stay protected.
Keep face squeaky clean
All the sweat, pollution from the sun, and the environmental damage happening on your skin causes dirt build-up. So in the summertime, you should aim wash your face every morning, afternoon, and evening. Make-up wipes also work just fine, so give your skin a refreshing swipe at midday to keep it fresh.
Ditch the contouring
Pore-clogging foundation should be shelved for a light tinted moisturiser and maybe a concealer to cover up your problem areas. When you’re getting ready use gentle facial wipes and then reapply your moisturiser, use a concealer stick, and some mascara to open up the eyes. The goal is to keep make-up as light as possible.
During the warmer months over-exfoliating can strip essential oils from your skin. It then produces more oil to recover, which will make your skin too oily and a breeding ground for breakouts. Exfoliate just once every week or 10 days. And if you’re toning on a regular basis you won’t really too. Paring down your beauty routine in the summer months will stop breakouts, which means you’ll have more time to spend in the sun.
