Begley blames recession for Dublin move

Begley, who returned to Ireland last autumn after four year in Aussie Rules, has taken up a position as Games Promotion Officer with Parnells and will play for the club in 2010.

“When I cam home initially I was hoping to play with Stradbally and Laois and I was hoping to get a job around home that would have let me d o that,” said Begley.

“Both Stradbally and Laois were looking for a job for me but it’s not easy. There are lads out there with good degrees and good experience and can’t get work so when Parnell’s approached me to see if I’d be interested I said I’d speak to them.

“I was looking at all opportunities and this is a chance to get back on track. Parnell’s have found themselves in a position where they can employ people in coaching jobs so I’m going to be going around to the schools in the area coaching and I’ll also be involved with the club.

“I’m still going to play for Laois because if there was any issue with that there would have been no chance I’d have transferred.”
