Parnells dedicate win to Ryan
Tir Chonaill Gaels 1-06 Parnells 3-04 Parnells clinched the Minor League title at Greenford and then dedicated the win to former player Conrad Ryan. By Damian Dolan - 25/11/09
Ryan, who had played for Parnells from the age of six, was tragically killed on August 21 in car accident in Watford, and would have played in last Saturday’s final. He was just 17.
Liam Holly goaled twice for Parnells but in a game where the balance of power swung one way and then the other, the outcome remained in the balance till Conor Harte edged Parnells ahead in the last minute. Euan Robinson then found the back of the net to seal victory.
That Parnells came out on top was no mean feat considering they were forced to play the first 21 minutes with just 14 men. It didn’t seem to affect them, however, as Liam Holly took less than a minute to fire them a goal up. David O’Sullivan’s ball in found Holly, and he spun and shot past Kieran Nash.
On a heavy surface, the Gaels had made a slow start and they had to wait until the seventh minute for Aiden Lynam to get them on the board. Tir Chonaill were beginning to make their numerical advantage tell with Daniel Horgan and Ben O’Mahony getting the upper hand in midfield.
