Kerry may be All-Ireland champions but not even that has safeguarded them from seeing some of the best young talent cherry picked by the AFL. By Damian Dolan - 25/11/09

The departures last week of Tommy Walsh and David Moran to join the returning Tadhg Kennelly in Australia has heightened the growing concerns in GAA circles of the continued and even mounting threat of the AFL.

Kerry boss Jack O’Connor has shrugged off the loss, preferring to see it as an opportunity for others to shine, while GAA President Christy Cooney has issue a ‘don’t panic’ rallying cry in true Dad’s Army style.

But Kerry County Board Chairman Jerome Conway is of a similar mindset, publicly at least, believing that the situation has not reached worrying levels just yet and that Kerry has the talent to absorb the loss.

“I’ve noticed this year more players are coming home than going out. The number of players that will make it over in Australia I’d imagine would be very few, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about it,” Conway told the Irish World.
