Sexton has broken hand

New Ireland out half Jonathan Sexton broke his hand during the game with the Springboks at Croke Park on Saturday By Diarmaid Williams - 30/11/09

Sexton has broken hand

The Leinster man will now be absent from his province's plans for the next month. He broke two fingers during the victory over the world champions and will now sit out Leinster's back to back games against Llanelli Scarlets in the Heineken Cup.

Ireland concluded the most successful year in its rugby history going unbeaten for the full calendar year. As well as claiming the title of unofficial world champions following their defeat of the southern hemisphere champions, Irish clubs won the Magners League and Heineken Cup, while the national side won the Grand Slam, the triple crown, the championship and the Churchill Cup.

Declan Kidney was named IRB coach of the year, but there was some surprise that Brian O'Driscoll was not chosen as Player of the Year. The All Blacks Richie McCaw was chosen for the garland, despite having an under par year by his normally high standards.
