Option Wireless will get rid of 150 staff at its plant in Cork as part of its Belgium-based parent company’s plans to cut costs.
The company, which makes wireless communications products, said the facility at the Kilbarry Industrial Estate would hold on to 22 employees.
The plant customised the company's products, by adding software. Its activities are to be transferred to what the company called 'lower cost' regions in Asia.
Option said the first jobs would probably go in January 2010, with further cuts made at the end of March.
A call centre in Sligo, meanwhile, has announced 160 job cuts. The Tiscali contact centre in the Finisklin Business Centre will close its doors in six months.
Part of the Talk Talk group, Tiscali is a UK supplier of phone and broadband services.
Talk Talk took over the Sligo business in June and says that after an extensive review it is going to close.
A statement says: 'As processes improve and fewer customers call us, we have taken the decision to so consolidate and create Centres of Excellence enabling us to serve our customers better.
'The result is that work currently undertaken in Sligo will be moved to other locations including Waterford'.
In Dubiln, low-cost private jet company Jetbird has put some 40 staff on protective notice.
Owned by Irish investment group Claret Capital, the company has various private investors.
The firm was hoping to launch its service beginning in Germany in September, but has had problems raising the money - thought to be around €10m.
It is thought the company, based in Eastpoint Business Park, is still trying to raise the funds.
