Stop the 'Bray-Bashing'!
I READ a story on your website today which was about a survey on the website LikePlace.ie. - 29/12/09
The survey, which gathered results from 1630 people, apparently revealed Bray, Co Wicklow as the worst place to live in Ireland.
These surveys and their so-called ‘conclusive’ results about what people think really get on my goat! It’s all relative, and it’s not fair to paint such a damning picture of a town to people that may never have set foot in the place. After reading such surveys, I doubt they’ll have any interest to either.
I am from Bray (of course!) but live in Birmingham, and I can tell you that it has many hidden gems that just take a while to discover– it’s not merely a dull, Dublin commuter town.
For food buffs, Bray has some great restaurants, beautiful sea walks and film fans will know that it is home to Ireland's only dedicated film studios, Ardmore - where Braveheart, and Breakfast on Pluto amongst other films have been shot.
I’m all for informing people about great places to live and visit – but tarnishing places that aren’t as instantly attractive by telling everyone they’re the worst of the pile just gives business in that town an uphill battle.
I urge anyone who hasn’t been to Bray not to take the lazy option – go there, get to know the place and the people and then make an informed decision about how bad it really is!
