Galway native's award shows Irish emigrants can have the best of both worlds - 25/11/09

Award is well deserved

We congratulate Sean Burke who has received a Galway Rehab People of the Year Award in his home county.

Mr Burke is a great example of an Irish emigrant who has made a great success of himself in his adopted country, while still retaining a great loyalty to his native land.

What’s more, he has contributed to both countries through fundraising for local charities, supporting bodies and organisations, sponsoring sport and providing a guiding hand for those who sought his council.

We can all embrace our adopted home without forgetting the place from where we came. Frequently we hear people say that Ireland offered them nothing; or indeed that the UK has been forced upon them through no fault of their own and that it can never be home.

Sean Burke has shown that actually neither situation needs to be true.
