Calum Best was in Dublin yesterday to unveil a wax model of his footballer father, George Best. By Shelley Marsden - 26/11/09
The 28-year-old spoke at the launch of how his Belfast-born father, who played for Manchester United, united Protestant and Catholic communities that were impressed by his talents during the Troubles.
The waxwork, reports the Irish Independent, was unveiled in the Irish capital to mark the fourth anniversary of the sportsman’s death, at just 59, following years of alcoholic abuse.
Calum Best spoke at the event at the National Wax Museum of how difficult it was growing up with an alcoholic father.
He said, “What affected me the most was knowing that my father had the potential to be a really great father figure.
“In the morning when he woke up when he was sober he was such a loving, kind and generous person.”
