Unmade Beds, by Alexis Dos Santos (Soda Films) By Francesca Spadoni - 24/11/09

Tales of the city

Unmade Beds is a romantic tale set in both Soho and East London, as experienced by two twenty-year olds that find themselves submerged by the innumerable inputs of the great metropolis.

This is the history of Alex, a tender young boy of Spanish origins who is looking for his father and for his memory, and the history of Vera, a talented photographer that discovers love and how it can allow you to escape.

The two live in a very crowded squat and don't get the chance to meet up to until night, in a critical moment for both their lives – but it’s only for one night, as the

following day each will return to their own lives, abandoning the memory of it all and only preserving the feeling of pleasure of meeting a stranger.

Their paths cross, at times, but not out of need or necessity. London is the fading of the borders; it is a frantic, boiling volcano where anything can happen. It doesn't matter where you come from, or where you go; where you live, what music you listen to; who you choose to love and who you choose to sleep with.

During sleepless nights, unmade beds and alcoholic concerts, Dos Santos describes life and the winds of change with great delicacy. ‘Unmade Beds’ is also a beautiful testament to the capital’s musical heart: the director has patrolled

Brick Lane
, Tottenham and Shoreditch recruiting bands to play in his film. The soundtrack, includes We Are Performance, Kimya Dawson and The Tindersticks.
