World AIDS Day
World AIDS day is being observed across the world today. By Shelley Marsden - 01/12/08
With some 33 million people living with the virus and the number of HIV infections increasing in both Ireland and Great Britain, it is a disease we cannot ignore.
According to its “2008 Report on Global AIDS Epidemic,” UNAIDS said the rate of new infections has gone down in many countries but that this trend has been “partially offset” by increases in new infections in other countries.
Sub-Saharan Africa remains the worst affected by HIV, accounting for 67 percent of all HIV cases and for 72 percent of AIDS deaths last year.
What can I do to help?
Buy a red ribbon
This year we are top UK retailers are coming together to support World AIDS Day. Gap, H&M, MAC, British Red Cross and Selfridges have joined with NAT (National AIDS Trust) to make red ribbons available across the UK.
The Red Ribbon is the international symbol of support for people living with HIV. Wearing a red ribbon is a great way to raise awareness about HIV as well as to break down stigma and prejudice.
Our work is only possible because of generosity of our supporters. By making a donation to NAT you will be helping us prevent the spread of HIV and make a real difference to the lives of people living with HIV.
How do I donate?
Make a Donation online using your debit or credit card using secure online payment.
Send a cheque payable to NAT along with a signed Gift aid declaration form to NAT, New City Cloisters, 196 Old Street, London, EC1V 9FR (remember to include a short note so that we know where the cheque has come from - we like to thank our donors!)
Make a regular donation
This is one of the most important ways you can support NAT, at a time when Government funding for HIV is decreasing year on year.
Add gift aid
All you have to do is complete a gift aid form and return it. It will add 28p to every 1 that you donate, and you only have to do it once. Send your signed gift aid form to NAT, New City Cloisters, 196 Old Street, London, EC1V 9FR
