At around 9pm last night the alarm was raised and gardaí alerted fire services.
Up to eight units of the fire brigade were dispatched from Dunlavin, Blessington and Kildare.
The blaze was brought under control by emergency services by around 5am.
No injuries have been reported, and it is not yet known if anyone was in the house at the time.
Gardaí said it is too early to say whether the fire is being treated as suspicious.
Situated near Blessington lakes, Russborough House is one of Ireland's most well known stately homes and is home to a valuable art collection.
