Meyler heaps pressure on Dubs

Former Wexford hurling boss John Meyler has branded Dublin as hot favourites ahead of Sunday's Leinster SHC semi-final meeting with the Model County at Nowlan Park. By Damian Dolan - 19/06/09

Meyler heaps pressure on Dubs

Meyler, who was removed as Wexford manager last autumn in controversial circumstances, believes that Dublin’s Division 1 experience, coupled with the ‘Anthony Daly’ factor makes them favourites to progress to their first provincial hurling final since 1991.

“Dublin will be favourites for Sunday because they’ve had seven games in the first division and they’ve played to a higher quality of hurling in Division 1,” said Meyler.

“Wexford failed to get out of Division 2 but they’ll tell you that they won the All-Ireland in 1996 when they were in Division 2, so that doesn’t really matter to them.

“Wexford had a really good win against Offaly, I thought. It was very comfortable, whereas Dublin were struggling against Antrim in the first half, and if Antrim had taken their scores before half-time, they would have gone in a few points up.

“Again, there’s huge pressure on Dublin on Sunday because with Daly there, everyone is saying that this is the year of the breakthrough.”
