Ant and Dec: 'Saturday Night Takeaway nerves don't get any easier!'

Ant and Dec have learned to accept that “whatever happens, happens” on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

The presenting pair’s hit show, which features a combination of celebrity guests, silly contests and audience participation, will return to screens on Saturday (20Feb16). Despite it having aired since 2002, the duo, whose real names are Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, still find they struggle with nervous before the live show begins.

“We still get a massive sweat on (when we see that stage). We still get nervous every year, don’t we?” Dec said during an interview with Ant on Good Morning Britain on Friday (19Feb16).

“Especially for show one!” Ant added.

The most daunting aspect of presenting such a programme is the knowledge that errors and mistakes can take place. However, Ant and Dec have managed to learn to accept that “whatever happens, happens”.

“Before we set off down those set of stairs you just have to take a deep breath and think, ‘Right, this is it for the next hour and a half. Whatever happens, happens, you’ve just got to go with it’,” Dec explained.

One of the show’s new segments is called Who Shot Simon Cowell? and will see a host of celebrities under suspicion of murdering the music mogul. The tale will unfold over the weeks of the show, with stars including Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Piers Morgan and Sinitta all suspects.

“We’ve got loads of celebs and they’ve all got a motive to kill Simon Cowell, let’s be honest!” Ant said.

This series of Saturday Night Takeaway will also see the return of the segments I’m a Celebrity… Get Out of my Ear, in which a celebrity is given an earpiece through which Ant and Dec give them instructions of what to do in a relatively normal situation. The pair will also be seen pranking James Corden by hiring a security guard who pretends not to know who the Late Late Show host is.

“Get Out of my Ear is back, we have done brilliant ones with Gino D’Acampo and Mel B. Undercover is back, we’ve just got back from LA where we did James Corden. We infiltrate the show!” Dec laughed.
