January: traditionally the month we all bemoan how we’ve over-indulged over the last few weeks, sign up to a new gym and resolve only to eat clean… which usually lasts all of a week.
If you want to change the record this time around but still want to do something good for your body allow us to make a suggestion – incorporate some algae into your beauty regime.
OK so it may not sound like the sexiest ingredient, but stick with us. Algae is already in a host of beauty products because it has so many great skin benefits. It’s a great moisturiser, is thought to have anti-acne properties and be an antioxidant.
It can also help keep the skin bright and has anti-ageing properties too.
All of this makes it a great ingredient to kick off a January skin detox, and how far you decide to take that idea is completely your call. If you want to really give your skin a boost you could look into an intensive treatment at a salon.
Something like an algae wrap works to detox the skin by boosting the metabolism and helping the body get rid of toxins.
Most salons will offer a version of this, with the package at Champneys, Tring, taking place in the organisations very own Detox Centre. You’ll be covered in algae and wrapped up in cling film and towels while it gets to work, leaving you with moisturised skin afterwards.
Of course many of us prefer to treat ourselves at home, with a lot of big brands offering algae treatments you can do yourself. For example, Thalgo Marine Algae Sachet is a 100 per cent natural algae powder which you pop in the bath and will help with muscle fatigue, poor circulation and detoxification.
All you do is add to water – how hot the bath is will determine whether it works to invigorate, relax or refine – relax for 30 minutes, get out and wear a robe for a 20 minutes, then rinse.
You can pinpoint your face by choosing skincare products which are loaded with algae too. Our picks are Fresh’s Lotus Youth Preserve Radiance Lotion to aid illumination, Algenist Algae Brightening Mask as a treatment step and Origins Original Skin™ Renewal Serum if your skin is dull and you have large pores.
