Jim Bolger has now finally admitted that his 2000 Guineas hero Dawn Approach will now be more than likely heading to Epsom for the Investec Derby next month.
The son of Bolger’s New Approach has been unbeaten now in six starts as a juvenile, he stormed clear in the Guineas to go one better than his father and go on and win the opening Classic of the season.
It now looks likely the Godolphin owned colt will now head to the Derby where he will step up to the Mile and a Half trip at Epsom.
“What I said beforehand was that if he ran up to his best form I thought he’d win and he excelled in that area .It was his best performance to date,” said Bolger.
“Kevin Manning wound him up a bit sooner as he wanted to hit the top of the hill in full flight. That’s exactly what he did and it worked out very well.
“Sheikh Mohammed the owner of Dawn Approach and Bolger agreed that they will both sleep on I, ponder the situation and maybe have a chat in 48 hours.
“On his breeding you would think that he would not get the Derby trip, but because he’s so relaxed and he has so much class, there is a reasonable chance that he will get it.
