NEW British Open champ Rory McIlroy has been criticised for reportedly snubbing a young fan’s request for an autograph just moments after he won the title at Hoylake.

But fellow golfer Ian Poulter has defended the 25-year-old on Twitter, maintaining that game rules state that autographs can’t be signed until scorecards are handed in.

Poulter posted: “Just to clear up the signature thing. We are asked not to sign autographs until we have officially handed in our scorecards. #RulesAreRules.”
