Kilburn Gaels 1-14
Fr Murphy’s 0-09

by Sean Moriarty

Kilburn Gaels continued their domination of this year’s London County Senior Hurling Championship by racking up their third win in as many outings, this time against Father Murphy’s at Ruislip on Sunday.

The 2010 county champions have, and rightly so, earned themselves the favourite tag for this year’s title after becoming the only team to win all of their group games.

However, its early doors yet and the North West London outfit will need county stars like Brian Reagan, Brian McMahon and Noel McDonald, all of whom are currently injured, back on side if they are to offset the ever-improving fire power of last year’s runners up, Brothers Pearse, and the never to discounted reigning champions St Gabriel’s.

Sunday’s encounter against Fr Murphy’s side was a scrappy affair that never really reached the proper rhythm of two teams playing at this level. Indeed, seven of Kilburn’s 14 points came from placed balls with county star James Eagan proving deadly accurate on long and medium ranged attempts. Likewise Murphy’s Stephen Bardon scored three of their nine scores from free kicks – an indication of just how much disruption was witnessed throughout the contest.
