Kilburn Gaels  3-10, St Gabriel’s 1-7 By Damian Dolan.

St Gabriel’s suffered a rare championship defeat at Ruislip on Sunday, but Tommy Duane’s three-in-a-row chasing county champions could have few complaints.

Kilburn were far hungrier and sharper in this round 2 clash as they backed up their win the previous weekend over Brothers Pearse in impressive style, while Gabriel’s were a shadow of the team which had blown Fr Murphy’s away in the second half of their round 1 meeting.

Admittedly Gabriel’s were minus the influential Martin Finn against Kilburn, but that alone could not explain away their inability to register a single score from play. Gabriel’s still had a strong enough line up to call upon and it was hard to explain their lacklustre display.

Beginning with a slight breeze at their backs, Kilburn opened the scoring through James Egan and Martin Duggan. Neil Rodgers’ free would get the champions on the board, but the Gabriel’s captain of last year would have a miserable first half from placed balls before being relieved of that responsibility by Francis Barrett.
