THE most popular names for newborns in Ireland last year were Jack and Emily, according to an official survey.

Both names have held the number one position for years now, with Jack the most registered name for boys since 2007 and Emily the most popular for girls since 2011.

Coming second to Jack for boys is James, followed by Daniel, Conor and Sean. These same five names have held the top five for the last six years, just changing order year on year.

For girls, Emma is second most popular, followed by Sophie, Ella and Amelia.

Two new entries into the top 100 for boys were Kai and Kayden, with four new entries for girls: Sadie, Sienna, Fiadh and Poppy.
