IT’S played host to some of the famous stars on the planet. Now the crème de la crème of the Irish entertainment world will take to London’s Royal Albert Hall stage to mark President Michael D Higgins’ State visit to the UK.

President Higgins will be the guest of honour at the special concert on Thursday, April 10 as part of his forthcoming State trip to Britain, from April 8 to 10.

Entitled Ceiliúradh (Celebration) the concert, which will celebrate the “the strength and range of collaboration and creativity between Ireland and the United Kingdom and the contribution of the Irish community” will feature world-famous and emerging artists from both Ireland and the UK.

President Higgins will become the first Irish head of State to make an official State visit to Britain, following Queen Elizabeth’s three-day visit to Ireland in May 2011, and his itinerary will include this evening of music, spoken word and dance at the 5, 500-capacity Royal Albert Hall

The impressive auditorium – one of the world’s most famous stages – was opened by Prince Albert in 1871, hosts over 370 shows a year by artists from across the globe

The line-up of performers has yet to be finalised, but it is sure to include some of Ireland’s best-known musicians, singers, actors, authors and poets.ll.

Tickets for the April 10 concert will be available for the public to buy from February 28, with proceeds from ticket sales donated to the Irish Youth Foundation (UK) to be used in support of Irish cultural projects in Britain.

Tickets (£10, including booking fees) for this ‘One Night Only’ event will be available from 9am on Friday February  28 through the Royal Albert Hall Box Office, online at www.royalalberthall.com or by phone on 0845 401 5034. A maximum of 4 tickets per person will be made available.

The high-profile concert will be one of a series of engagements for the President and his wife Sabrina during their three-day visit, during which they are expected to be guests of Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, west of London.
