It was Paul Coggins’ intention to seek clarification at last Monday night’s first county board meeting about the eligibility of injured players to play for London in the National League should they be forced to sit out next weekend’s club championship first round.
With the agreement of the clubs and the board, the decision was taken last year that only players who committed to playing championship for their London club would be considered for selection for the county team.
However, that could rule out the likes of Tyrone All Star nominee Cathal McCarron, Pat Begley, London captain Seamus Hannon and Cathal Og Greene, all of whom are carrying injuries.
“I know Cathal [McCarron] is suffering with an injury and it’s impossible for Patrick to play this weekend – he’s got stitches in his knee and can’t bend it – and Cathal [Og Greene] is another guy,” said Coggins. “We’re working frantically to get Seamus to play some part, but he’s been suffering from quite a bad ankle injury.
